New NHSScotland PACS Contract Awarded

NHS National Services Scotland has awarded a 10-year contract for a managed service of a Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and associated services, for the benefit of all Health Boards in Scotland, to Sectra Ltd.

Sectra is a known market leader for PACS and will be the Prime Supplier for NHSScotland, delivering a full Managed Technical Service (MTS) for the Acute and Breast Screening PACS Service through a Public Cloud hybrid architecture.

The new PACS service will replace the contract with NHSScotland’s current PACS supplier – Philips, that is due to end in December 2026.

Work is now underway to refine the plans for Phase Three of the Programme – Transition and Implementation, which will include the migration of over 55 million radiology studies to a single instance of Sectra’s enterprise imaging service and deployment of the new PACS solution to each of the 15 Health Board sites over the next three years.

The PACS Reprovisioning Programme Team would like to express our sincere thanks for all the help and support provided by a significant number of colleagues across all the territorial Health Boards to help us to get to this stage. Engagement is already underway via the various PACS Governance and Technical Groups to socialise the details of the new contract and plans are being put in place to hold Health Board engagement and demonstration sessions in the new year.
